BIOTHERM’S ACTIONS TO REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION IN THE OCEAN
Water has been both a source and an inspiration for Biotherm’s innovative skincare since the 1950s. Today, the brand is more committed than ever to preserving our Earth’s most precious resource
Covering more than two-thirds of the Earth’s surface, the ocean helps regulate our climate, produces an incredible amount of oxygen, and is home to an abundance of aquatic life. Our future relies 100% on this natural element, yet less than 3% of the planet’s blue heart is protected. Over the years Biotherm has been committed to respecting and protecting our water so that we can continue to enjoy it for years to come.
As part of the Water Lovers water protection program, Biotherm designed the brand’s first eco-designed sunscreen to protect skin from damaging UV rays while respecting the aquatic environment. The 96% biodegradable base formula contains eco-tested filters and skin-hydrating ingredients, and comes in a 100% recycled and 100% recyclable bottle for sun protection that you can feel good about wearing!
In recent years Biotherm has worked to improve the biodegradability of rinse-off formulas with the goal of making them 90% or more biodegradable. Scrubs that previously contained plastic microbeads have been updated with natural botanical or mineral exfoliators like ground apricot kernels and sugar crystals. In addition, Biotherm is currently developing quick wash rinse-off products to encourage consumers to take shorter showers.
Working with water charities
Biotherm contributes to the protection of the world’s waters as part of an ongoing collaboration with Mission Blue. Their charity efforts include the protection of “Hope Spots”, large protected marine areas that are critical to the health of the ocean, where conservation efforts are undertaken to ensure the aquatic life there continues to thrive.
Each and every day Biotherm renews their commitment to preserving our planet’s blue heart.
