A daily dose of Greek yogurt will help you keep calm and carry on

You’ll begin to live a happier life when you start paying more attention to your gut – and not just in a metaphorical way.

Pretty much all of us are aware that two essential components of a healthy lifestyle are clean eating and regular exercise. However there’s one more that you may be overlooking, and that’s probiotics. Probiotics, meaning ‘’for life’’ in Greek help heal the body, keep you feeling joyful, can give you a flat tummy, and are great for the skin. One of the best (and tastiest) ways to incorporate them into your diet is by eating Greek yogurt on a regular basis.

Your overall well-being starts in the gut

It’s estimated that around 90% of the body's serotonin is produced in the digestive tract, so when there’s a gut flora imbalance and too much ‘’bad bacteria’’ in it, our mood is directly affected and can leave us feeling ‘’out of sorts.” This imbalance occurs when probiotics (known as ‘’good bacteria’’) that exist naturally in our gut are destroyed – the main culprits are a stressful lifestyle, unhealthy eating, a highly acidic diet, and antibiotics. A great way to combat it and add some good bacteria back into the gut is to eat probiotic foods, like Greek yogurt. A daily serving of Greek yogurt can help regulate your digestion system, improve your immune system, and even reduce anxiety, according to research.

Top tip: When shopping for Greek yogurt at the store, look for one that has no added sugars and includes one of the following words in the ingredients - Lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus casei, or Bifidobacterium, which are all beneficial bacteria for your gut.

How to incorporate Greek yogurt into your diet

It’s easy to eat Greek yogurt every day: Add it to your breakfast smoothies, enjoy it as a snack with some nuts, fresh berries, and a drizzle of honey, or use it in the place of cream in homemade salad dressings or pasta sauces (just don’t heat it past 48 degrees Celsius which can kill the good bacteria in the yogurt).

Adding probiotic foods like Greek yogurt to your diet will make you healthier and happier!
