And what if your new beauty ally was healthy fat?
Okay, so reading the word “fat” might make you freak out, but healthy fat can actually be good for you and even help you lose weight, according to a study conducted by Harvard. If you’re making avocados, nuts and salmon part of your diet on a regular basis (all healthy fats) then you’re already on the right path. But if you really want to boost the beauty and health benefits you’re getting from your food, add olive oil to your meals.
OLIVE OIL CAN REDUCE INFLAMMATION
The International Olive Council came out with a report in 2012 that showcases the health benefits of olive oil. In it they describe that it’s full of antioxidants and that increased consumption of the oil can reduce inflammation thanks to the polyphenols found in it (hydroxytyrosol to be exact). The less inflammation there is in your body and the more your body is protected from free radicals (thanks to antioxidants), the less acne, skin disorders and premature aging you’ll have. Not bad for something we can cook with!
HOW TO GET A DAILY DOSE OF OLIVE OIL
Olive oil is a staple in the Mediterranean diet and it’s recommended to have at least a tablespoon of the monounsaturated fat a day. Skip the butter and use it in your cakes (like in the one seen below), roast vegetables with it, and create your own salad dressing with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a bit of honey, salt and pepper.
Your skin can look great even if your diet has some fat in it – but just make sure it’s the healthy kind.
