These 3 hacks will ripen your avocados – fast
As much as we try to be patient and let our avocados ripen naturally, our love for guacamole and #avocadotoast is strong here at the #LIVEMORE office. For those times we can’t wait (can you blame us?), we’ve found a few ways – with a little help from our friend, the Internet – to speed up the process.
To determine which avocado hack will work best for you, we’ve rated each one by craving intensity:
IF YOU NEED TO EAT IT NOW: OVEN HACK
This hack was all over the web recently. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F (93 degrees C) and wrap your avocado in tinfoil. Let the avocado bake for 10 minutes (or up to an hour if it’s rock hard), and then pop it in the fridge to cool down.
IF YOU CAN WAIT ONE DAY: PAPER BAG HACK
Some fruits, like avocados, bananas and apples release ethylene gas, which is how they get ripe. If you place an unripe avocado with a ripe apple or banana in a closed paper bag, the gas gets trapped. This allows the avocado to ripen very quickly, generally within a day.
IF YOU CAN WAIT MORE THAN ONE DAY: WINDOWSILL HACK
If you have a windowsill that gets a lot of sunlight, place your unripe avocado on it. The heat from the sun will speed up the ripening process by triggering the avocado to release more ethylene gas. This hack generally takes 2-3 days to work, but check its ripeness daily.
Now that you know how to ripen your avocados fast, all that’s left is perfecting your #avocadorose skills.
