Dry, normal, or oily - what’s your skin type? Find the right cleanser for you!

Cleansing is arguably the most important step of any skincare routine and a non-negotiable if you want smooth, glowing skin. Removing the makeup, dust, dirt, sweat, and sebum that have accumulated on your skin over the course of the day not only keeps your skin clear of blemishes and imperfections, it creates a clean slate for your other skincare products so that they can penetrate more deeply and work more effectively.

Of course, finding the perfect cleanser is no small task. From waters and gels to creams and foams, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the plethora of formulas available. And not only that, but each one is made for a specific skin type, something that can be tricky to figure out. Knowing your skin type, however, is crucial to properly caring for your skin as it helps you choose the right formulas and ingredients to meet your skin’s needs. So, how do you figure out what your skin type is?

A simple test to find out your skin type

The easiest way to determine your skin type is by… washing it! Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry. Don’t apply any products after, just let it be for 30 minutes. Once enough time has passed, observe how your skin looks and feels. If it feels tight or has noticeable flakiness, your skin is most likely dry. If there is a slight sheen on your T-zone but your skin is generally comfortable and matte, then you have normal or combination skin. If there’s a noticeable shine on your cheeks, forehead, and chin, then you probably have oily skin.

How to get flawless skin with the right cleanser

I have dry, dehydrated skin

Aside from feeling tight, dry skin can also appear dull and flaky. Since dry skin lacks oil and has difficulty retaining moisture, it’s important to look for products that provide intense hydration. Biotherm Biosource Foaming Cream for Dry Skin is a rich cleansing cream that gently breaks down makeup and removes impurities without stripping away the skin’s natural oils.

Dispense a nut-sized amount of the cream into wet hands and lather it into a light foam, then massage the cleanser into damp skin using large circular motions. When the cleanser is rinsed off, skin feels clean and comfortable. Follow up with a toner to cleanse deep within the pores where cleansers can’t reach: soak a cotton pad with Biotherm Biosource Toner for Dry Skin and sweep it over your face, working from the center outward to gently refresh your complexion without compromising skin hydration.

I have oily skin

Oily skin is the most complicated to treat as excess sebum production often leaves the pores blocked and inflamed, resulting in a bumpy skin texture with plenty of imperfections. For these issues, it’s best to look for a detoxifying cleanser that clarifies the skin while minimizing pores, such as Biotherm Skin Oxygen Foaming Melting Gel. The silky gel contains Chlorella Algae Extract™, also known as “the breathing algae”, to oxygenate your skin while clearing pores, and thermal Life Plankton™ to help heal imperfections simultaneously.

Simply massage the gel onto dry skin and then lather with warm water and rinse off, leaving the skin cleansed and purified without feeling tight. Finish by sweeping a cotton pad soaked with Skin Oxygen Oxygenating Lotion over your face and neck to correct irregularities and perfect the skin’s texture. Day after day, the skin becomes more balanced and clear, free from congestion caused by sebum and pollutants.
