Sissy Mua: meet the French YouTube fitness star
Three years ago Sissy Mua launched a fitness/beauty/lifestyle YouTube Channel to share her fitness journey, and hasn’t looked back since.
Extremely passionate about what she does, this vibrant 26-year-old decided to sculpt her own version of the perfect beach body after spending time in Brazil and being surrounded by fit Brazilian beauties. Her commitment to fitness has earned her over 400K Instagram subscribers, over 700K subscribers on YouTube and two books (the most recent one, Sissy Fitness Body Book just hit the shelves this month).
We recently had the opportunity to meet up with the social media fitness star in Paris, France to ask her how she takes care of her skin when she’s not working out at the gym, and how she maintains a healthy lifestyle.
How has your view of beauty evolved since you started your YouTube channel?
Once I got more into fitness [my view] really started to change. I’m a big fan of beauty products and makeup, and I used to wear a lot of makeup, however, now I feel like I don’t need to hide behind it anymore. I still wear some, but it’s a lot more natural-looking. […] My view on beauty is that it starts with the body, and makeup follows. I feel better in my body now, which helps me feel more comfortable in my skin. Fitness is the best way to regain confidence.
You included golden rules for exercise and nutrition in your new book, Sissy Fitness Body Book. If you had to add the golden rules for beautiful skin, what would they be?
Removing your makeup at night, for sure. It seems like an obvious thing to do, but so many people don’t do it! I personally can’t go to sleep without taking my makeup off – it’s really important for both the skin and overall well-being. I’d say that the most important thing to do is to hydrate your skin morning and night, but make sure you’re using the right face cream: it’s important to identify what your skin type is, either by yourself or in a dermatologist’s office.
What’s your daily beauty routine?
I love to do scrubs, I try to do them at least once every 15 days, as it helps soften my skin. […] I wash my face in the shower with a special bar of soap that’s formulated for the face […] and then follow up with micellar water. Next I apply eye cream and a hydrating face cream. I follow the same routine morning and night.
Nearly every girl – even #fitgirls – struggles with cellulite. Could you share some of your own secrets and tips for reducing it?
The first [secret] is nutrition. I realized that eating more of a plant-based diet has personally helped me a lot. […] The second [secret] is exercise. It has such a positive effect on our health and on our cellulite! Try to combine strength training with endurance exercises; this helps boost your circulation. Other tips would be exfoliating, massages and drinking lots of water and green tea (it helps your body detox).
What’s the ideal healthy lifestyle in your eyes?
Obviously working out, but one type of exercise isn’t necessarily better than another. If you’re a fan of yoga [for example], you won’t get as much cardio as someone who runs for two hours, but it’s not really a big deal. Once you’ve found the physical activity that you like, do it on a regular basis. It’s better to do a little bit of something than nothing at all! When it comes to nutrition, the first thing to do is to avoid anything processed. If you really want to eat healthy, you have to eat homemade things, dishes that are prepared with clean ingredients. Try to go the market, buy your vegetables, and find time to make something with them. You don’t need to do anything complicated though. For example, I like to prepare a fast salad with raw chopped vegetables, that way I don’t need to set aside extra time to cook them!
What motivates you to #LIVEMORE each day?
I’m very passionate about what I do on both a personal and professional level. I’m lucky that I get to live out my passion, something that started out as a hobby. I’m really happy in this field, and I think it’s very important to find the career path that reflects you. If you hate your job, you shouldn’t be afraid to take risks. When I stopped my engineering career to be able to fully dedicate myself to my YouTube channel, it wasn’t easy, but over time it started to gain traction. I didn’t give up when I only had 50 subscribers, however I won’t lie that I was definitely taking a risk. But it was a risk that paid off in the end. If you don’t take risks then you never know what you’ll miss, so don’t hesitate to change your job, take classes at 40 years old, or even start working out again. […] I hope that everyone can find something to do [in life] that makes them as happy as I am right now.
