Water Lovers committed to oceans preservation since 2012

Since 2012, Biotherm’s Water Lovers program has worked to raise awareness on ocean preservation through internal initiatives and partnerships with world-class NGOs.

Today, Water Lovers encompasses all aspects of Biotherm’s value chain, aiming to improve the brand’s formulas and packaging designs, pioneer new recycling technologies, and minimize environmental footprint on water and aquatic life through cutting-edge bioscience technology.

Our commitments

Biotherm is committed to taking a new approach to formula and packaging development to improve the environmental footprint of our products on water and aquatic life. We believe that through our efforts we can trigger positive change in peoples’ behavior and to champion sustainability in the years to come.

Our Philosophy

BLUE BEAUTY

At Biotherm, we live by Blue Beauty – beauty that comes from the water and gives back to it.

BIOTHERM SKINCARE: POWERED BY BLUE BIOTECHTrue to our Blue Beauty commitment, our Life Plankton™ probiotic extracts, containing 35 nutrients and considered by scientists to be the most unique regenerating ingredient of the cosmetic industry, are sustainably produced in France since 1994.

They are 100% natural, biodegradable and renewable.

Benefits of Life Plankton™ probiotic extracts:

  • They strengthen skin’s natural defense and protect against age, environmental aggressions and lifestyle attacks.
  • They defend against free-radical attacks by acting as a powerful anti-oxidant
  • They strengthen skin self-protection function by preventing attack on cells responsible for skin’s immunity

BIOTHERM PACKAGING: A PIONEER IN NEW RECYCLING TECHNOLOGIESAn integral part of Biotherm’s ongoing environmental mission is to develop a sustainable circular economy. We pledge to reduce our plastic-packaging footprint progressively over the years by prioritizing recycled plastic or glass and pledge to be a pioneer in new recycling technologies to preserve natural resources and reduce fossil plastic consumption.

As part of our commitment to Blue Beauty and reducing the impact of plastic in our oceans, Biotherm is actively upgrading product packaging to better its environmental approach:

  • As of 2020, all PET packaging is made from 100% recycled PET.
  • By 2023, the brand will ensure that all products are made of a minimum of 50% recycled plastic and will start to use bio-recycled plastic when available.*
  • In 2025, Biotherm will be 80% fossil-free in its overall plastic consumption and to foster a circular economy for plastics, the brand commits to ensuring that 100% of its plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or refillable by 2025.
  • By 2030, 100% of the plastic used in Biotherm’s packaging will be either from recycled or biobased sources.

*Bio-recycled plastic is not the same as biodegradable plastic.

BIOTHERM x MISSION BLUE

In continuation of its commitment to the Earth’s water, Biotherm Water Lovers is proud to work in partnership with Mission Blue since 2012 to protect “Hope Spots” - special places that are critical to the health of the ocean. A concept introduced by Dr. Sylvia Earle, the founder of Mission Blue, Hope Spots empower individuals and communities around the world to protect and restore the ocean.

The partnership will seek to address the ever-growing threat of plastic pollution, in order to preserve the world’s oceans and support a new Hope Spot in Spain.

BIOTHERM x TARA OCEAN FOUNDATION

By funding the Tara Ocean Foundation, the Water Lovers program supports this non-profit organization’s critical research on the impact of climate and ecological change on the ocean, which in turn helps us to understand how to minimize our products’ impact on water and raise awareness on environmental issues.

Tara Ocean Foundation collaborates with scientific institutions and sails a 36-meter aluminum schooner called Tara around the world to collect ocean data. The boat has completed 12 expeditions so far, providing scientists with the information they need to predict and anticipate the impact of climate change.

In 2020, Tara will be embarking on a South Atlantic Mission in October 2020 dedicated to studying plankton and micro plastics in rivers in Brazil, Chili, Argentina, South Africa, and Senegal.
